Appearance:

 

Jennings stands about 5 ft 10 and is of a slender build, small sloping shoulders and narrow hips. Tan and dark-haired with moss colored eyes, he is always meticulously dressed. He wears his long dark hair slicked back neatly and is almost always in a tailored suit complete with waistcoat, braces, and monk-strap leather oxfords.

On his chest, just where a heart would normally be found in a human, Jennings bears a tattoo resembling the rondeau of Baude Cordier:

 

His brother Henry normally bears a matching mark.

History:

Jennings and his 'brother' Henry were a bi-product of Father Time removing his own heart, an act that so dramatically threw the balance of the spheres out of harmony that it shifted the alignment of earth among the spheres and caused the San Francisco earthquake (as San Francisco was where the act of removing his heart took place). The Presence that was 'Heart' was too fragile to exist outside of 'Time' and after only a brief existence in his own form 'Heart' split into two beings: 'Memory' and 'Sentiment'. As the being who had been 'Time' had now become so unthreaded without 'Heart', 'Memory', or 'Sentiment', 'Time' forgot himself and neither 'Memory' nor 'Sentiment' could remember how they had come to be bound in single, corporeal forms, separated from their host.

Either fortunately or unfortunately, Memory and Sentiment still retained the knowledge of who 'Time', now bound in his own corporeal form as an elderly man, was, but to their horror they found that 'Time' neither recognized them nor believed their claims that they were his creations. Instead, 'Memory' and 'Sentiment' were forced to stand to the side and watch as 'Time' constructed a human life for himself as Mr. Horace Pollidore the affluent owner of Swezy Auction House. For the first year or so, the brothers continued to try and appeal to Mr. Pollidore but with no luck. The two then resolved to become his caretakers while they tried to find a solution. They picked names for themselves from random books and street signs. Memory took the name Sansome Jennings, a combination of a major San Francisco street and the maiden name of William H. Seward's mother, found in a biography of Lincoln's Secretary of State. Meanwhile Sentiment took the name Henry August, two names also found in Jennings' book about W. H. Seward
